The Trip
I'm back from a long and interesting trip.
Some quick statistics:
The trip took 18 days, 12 hours. I passed through or stayed in Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, The District of Columbia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska, Some more than once. I covered 5591 miles, meaning that during those 18 and a half days, I averaged about 12.6 mph continuously. I burned 228.2 gallons of gasoline, at a total cost of $701.65. That's an average of 24.5 mpg, which is pretty decent for an 11 year old V-8 with 178,000 miles on it.
I got to spend some time with old friends, and made a new friend, and that's pretty good. Andy and Eliza's wedding was nice, but it reminded me too much of my wedding, which is still painful. Speaking of which, I saw Katie twice during the trip. That was something of a mixed bag. She was friendly and pleasant at the wedding reception, which led me to think we could still be friends, perhaps. After all, we still have a number of common interests, and a lot of shared experiences. When I stopped at her house to get my stuff, though, she was very unfriendly. I'm not sure what that means.
Anyway, it was good to discover I've still got the knack for long distance driving. (I even set a personal record--1340 miles, 22h 12m--for straight through driving.) Fun's over, though. Back to the grind.
